A Better Approach to Backup Power Generation

The floating booth was fitted out with 3 Compact air conditioning units , driven by a Panda 5000i NEO. Visitors could experience first hand what a Fischer Panda system could deliver on a vessel.
The incredibly quiet 5000i NEO generator using only 50% of its capacity running a total of 22,500 BTU A/C units plus the seawater pump, proved how powerful these variable speed generator units are.
Three different size Compact air conditioners (3500, 7,000, 12,000 btu) were operated simultaneously to keep the temperature inside the 18 m3 glass booth cool during 4 of the hottest April days in Singapore.
In addition to providing a welcome respite for visitors from the stifling heat, the clear view of the fully operation system showed what was involved in an installation.  It was a very cool place to sit.

The ideal boating scenario for an increasingly polluted world  - a practical vessel that runs continuously on nothing more than the power of the sun. This 11.5 meter catamaran from Azura Marine offers 55m2 of deck space, sun lounging and sheltered areas, tons of storage space with the usual amenities of WC, shower, galley and a range of options including noise insulated dive tank electric compressors. The entire solar canopy will be fitted with foldable stanchions and is usable as an upper deck lounge .

Powered by twin water-cooled 10 kW Fischer Panda electric motors with Easybox control systems, the Aquanima 35 is capable of up to 100 nautical miles per day with a top speed of 10 knots and a cruising speed of 6 knots. The electric motors are designed for 10,000 running hours without maintenance and the energy system is designed for 25+ years operation. Result – no propulsion system maintenance, no downtime, no fuel costs. No more fumes, no more vibration and engine noise, bad smells or dirty bilges.

Smaller, lighter, lower cost, just as powerful; at 79 kg we believe it is the lightest and smallest water cooled diesel generator available.
Having had its German premiere at boot Dusseldorf 2016, orders for the new 5000i NEO have been  flooding in. The first 2 production runs have been pre-ordered. Stocks for south East Asia will be available in 4th quarter.
Like all Fischer Panda inverter generators with variable speed control, the new model "Panda 5000i.Neo" is characterised by its high efficiency, quiet operation and compact design. Thanks to the inverter technology, - exhaust emission and fuel consumption are significantly reduced. As with all i-series, the NEO can be installed in parallel with any other i-Series model (fitted with parallel option) for that extra peak load or as a night-time low usage alternative
The Panda 5000i NEO hits the market at 19% lower cost than the previous 5000i.  Download the brochure here.
Fischer Panda’s i-Series, with the paralleling option enabled, opens up a very different approach to back-up/redundancy. Instead of a primary unit sized for peak loads backed up by a smaller emergency generator, the combined power output of the two generators, operating seamlessly with load balancing and variable speed, enables smaller output units to be installed (Fig 1 red). Both generators are run in parallel during peak times, sharing the load. The net effect is to optimize the maintenance cycles for both units, reduce fuel consumption, weight and size, and virtually eliminate carbon build up issues.

The Problem – Carbon Build-up and Cylinder Glazing
Picture
A common problem with diesel generators is carbon build up on pistons and cylinders. This is a regular complaint in larger vessels equipped with massive generators to cope with occasional peak loads, but also impacts many smaller generators over time. The problem stems from under-utilization.

It is an all-too-common cycle of degradation resulting in irreversibly damaged engines which may no longer start at all or, at best, will no longer be able to reach full power when required. White smoke from unburned fuel is eventually joined by the blue smoke of burnt lubricating oil leaking past the damaged piston rings, and the black smoke caused by the damaged injectors. Unpleasant, inefficient, unreliable and costly to rectify.
